Sampling Rick's Picks in Portland, Oregon!
My Grandfather retired to the Portland, Maine area, and as a guy born and raised in New England, I know THAT Portland well. Portland, Oregon, less so. Thankfully, the Rick’s Picks Summer 2009 Pickle Tour has brought me here to the Pacific Northwest. Everyone knows the wines from here are spectacular, but many of us have been pronouncing things wrong all these years. It’s the Pinot Noirs from the Wil-LAM-ette Valley, not Wil-lam-ETTE. Say it wrong and you are busted as an out-of-towner. So I have been practicing. My hosts, Richard and Charlene, have a spectacular compound of dwellings about 25 minutes outside of Portland . Their gardens deserve a post all of their own, and they will get it. I’ll also put up a list of cool things I saw and did in the region. But for now, let’s focus on the mission at hand. Here’s a list of my store appearances here in the Rose City over the next few days. Spread the word to your friends in the area!

Rick
rick is lecturing this weekend!
I got a call from a fellow named Adam Lerner of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. He curates a series around the country called Mixed Taste, where two people in unrelated fields give talks about their areas of expertise and then there’s a Q and A where the speakers and the audience discuss how the two themes mash up. It was the kind of offer I could not refuse! Here are the details:
